Tour Code: KCHBD1Duration – Half Day

For the Annah Rais Bidayuh Longhouse tour, you will travel about one hour by coach from Kuching to Annah Rais. Annah Rais is located in the heart of the Padawan District (about 40 km from Kuching). Annah Rais Bidayuh longhouse is the largest in Sarawak. The Annah Rais Longhouse stands on the same site where the longhouse was first built 200 years ago. It is built mainly of bamboo, timber and Nipah palm leaves. The Bidayuh are gracious hosts – delightfully warm and gentle people. The Bidayuh make up about 8% of Sarawak’s population and were formerly known as Land Dayaks. Explore this peaceful Bidayuh village and learn about the culture of the Land Dayaks who were once headhunters. Visit the baruk (head house) where the skulls can be seen. (Lunch included)

Longhouse at Anah Rais

Some believe that Annah Rais is no longer such an authentic longhouse, due to the close proximity to Kuching city. The residents here are more modern than some of the more rural population in Sarawak. The massive longhouse is interconnected by a timber and bamboo walkway (ruai), which is the main common area where families sit around and talk, and the kids play. Annah Rais is so huge that it seems like one entire village is connected together, with home run restaurants, grocery shops and the local homegrown products. The village is the perfect place to discover Bidayuh culture and learn about the fascinating way of life of this particular tribe of Borneo.
