In conjunction with the Sarawak Tourism Board, Pullman Kuching and Royal Mulu Resort, we are offering a special package deal for a minimum 8 day / 7 night stay in Borneo at two of Sarawak’s premier locations – Pullman Kuching, located in the heart of Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, and Royal Mulu Resort, located in the middle of the rainforest adjacent to Mulu National Park, a wonderful World Heritage area in the North of Sarawak. The offer is for reservations in the period from 15 August until 15 October, 2014, for travel from 15 August until mid-December November, 2014, subject to availability.

Mulu National Park

The itinerary is as follows: Day 1 Arrive at Kuching Airport. You will be met and transferred to your Deluxe Room (twin or double) at Pullman Kuching. Remainder of day at leisure. Day 2 Full day trip to Bako National Park – the oldest National Park in Sarawak. The park offers the perfect introduction to Sarawak’s forests and wildlife. It is the home of Proboscis Monkeys, Long-tailed Macaques, Silver leaf monkeys, wild boars, squirrels, monitor lizards, and magnificent bird life. A special aspect of Bako is its plant life. The park contains a wide range of vegetation – peat swamp forests, padang (grassland) vegetation, mangrove forest, dipterocarp forest, cliff vegetation, beach vegetation, heath, and pitcher plants – it is said that it is possible to see almost every type of vegetation found in Borneo within the park boundaries. Access to the area is only by boat. Bako also has some good white sand beaches. All the beaches are are bordered by limestone and sandstone cliffs. The action of the sea has left some unusual rock formations, such as the well known “Sea Stack”. Return to Pullman Kuching in the late afternoon [includes breakfast and lunch]

Day 3 A full day trip to kayak down the Sarawak River. On the way to the start of the kayaking, you will stop at Semengoh Wildlife Centre The centre was established in 1975 for the rehabilitation of confiscated and surrendered wild animals, including orang-utans. You will be able to observe the feeding of orang-utans. Enjoy the 30 minute trip from Semengoh to the countryside of Borneo Highlands. Kampong (Kpg.) Bengoh, a native Bidayuh village in the highlands above Kuching, where you will begin your kayaking adventure. You will see towering limestone mountain ranges which separate Sarawak from Kalimantan, Indonesia. Pass by rustic Bidayuh villages, small chapels, village schools, rice padi fields, pepper, rubber and cocoa trees, and also see the protected carnivorous pitcher plants.You will enjoy a filled kayaking adventure in some of the most beautiful natural settings in the vicinity of Kuching. Paddle leisurely from the upper reaches of the Sungai Sarawak. Along the way, savour the sights of unique limestone formations and towering riverine trees while enjoying the peace and tranquility of the rainforest. Discover the fascinating carnivorous Pitcher plants (Nepenthes) in their natural habitat. Get to know some local herbs, spices, vegetables and fruits in a native Bidayuh village. Take a cool dip and eat your packed lunch on a sandy bank. Finish the trip at Kampong Semadang in the Borneo Highlands.

KAYAKING ON THE SUNGAI SARAWAK

Most people are be capable of doing this trip. The water is generally shallow enough to stand in. If you get tired from paddling, the river current will help you along. Small children can be accommodated in the middle of the kayaks. Safety vests are supplied Along the way, you will find a refreshing waterfalls or two. Day 4 Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Mulu. The caves of Gunung Mulu, as it is known locally, are the crowning glory of Sarawak’s national parks and contain the largest limestone cave system in the world. Mulu’s system of caves is truly spectacular. The caves which are open for public inspection include the world’s largest natural chamber (Sarawak Chamber), the world’s largest cave passage (Deer Cave) and the longest cave in South-East Asia (Clearwater Cave). You will be met on arrival at Mulu airport, and transferred to Royal Mulu Resort, which is located close by.

In the afternoon, visit the 480 metre long Canopy Skywalk – the longest tree top canopy walkway in the world. [includes breakfast and dinner]

Day 5

Full day tour of the show caves in Mulu National Park – morning tour to Wind and Clearwater Caves, and afternoon tour to Langs Cave and Deer Cave.

The visit to the Wind Cave necessitates a trip up the river by longboat. In the Wind Cave can be found the impressive “King’s Chamber”, and some wonderful examples of stalactites and stalagmites exhibiting delicate lace like patterns. Clearwater Cave nearby is accessed by a boardwalk suspended from the limestone cliff. Close to Clearwater Cave is a wonderful swimming area which is nicely shaded by giant rainforest trees, where you will be able to enjoy a lunch break.

BOARDWALK TO CLEARWATER CAVE – MULU

Deer Cave and Lang’s Cave are located some 3km from the Park HQ, along a scenic 3km boardwalk. The stalactites and stalagmites in Lang’s Cave are some of the best to be found in Mulu National Park. Deer Cave has a moon-like landscape, and from one vantage point in the cave, a perfect profile of President Lincoln can be observed.

Each evening as the sun sets, about 2 million bats exit the cave in search of food. You will be able to wait at a vantage point outside the cave to watch the bats leave the cave.

Return to Royal Mulu Resort in the early evening.

Day 7

Morning tour to Sarawak Cultural Village

Located just outside Kuching near Santubong, Sarawak Cultural Village gives the visitor a good insight into the day to day life in a typical village atmosphere, with displays of dances, music, crafts and artefacts.

There are replica buildings representing every major ethnic group in Sarawak, staffed by members of those ethnic groups in traditional costumes, carrying out traditional activities.

Return to Kuching – afternoon at leisure – visit the artefact shops on Main Bazaar adjacent to the river.
