Sandakan Orang-utan Day Trip

You will be met at the airport (or your hotel if already staying in Sandakan) and transferred to Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre for for an audio visual presentation in the theatrette. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest on timber boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orang-utans at 10.00hrs. You will have plenty of time to watch the orang-utans until they disappear back into the jungle. Visit the recently completed nursery enclosure area for young orang-utans.

Afterwards, visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about conservation of the world’s smallest bear.

Return to Sandakan for lunch at Sabah Hotel.

After lunch you will proceed to airport for the afternoon flight to Kota Kinabalu. For those taking the evening flight or remaining in Sandakan for the night, you will have a chance to visit Rainforest Discovery Centre which is located about 30 minutes from Sandakan. Have a birds-eye view of the centre from the canopy walk and hanging bridge for a spot of bird watching – you may even catch sight of the Hornbill. You will also be taken on a short walk along a constructed trail through the jungle – about 45 mins., then explore the botanical garden, home to various species of flora.

From the Rainforest Discovery Centre, you will be transferred to the Australian War Memorial at the World War II Japanese Prisoner of War camp. You will be able to visit the information gallery and also walk the loop trail.
