Duration - 4 Days/3 Nights

You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this trek

Day 1

Depart your hotel for 1 hour drive to Km 50 on the Tambunan Road. Upon arrival, commence trekking at 1,500m above sea level, walking downhill on a steep slope, passing through native villages, primary and secondary jungle/shifting cultivation.

This part of the walk will take about 5 hours. Overnight at Village Community Hall. (Lunch and Dinner included)

Days 2 and 3

Trekking on gentle terrain and ridges, criss-crossing rivers, native villages, jungle and rice paddy fields. Each day will be about 5 to 8 hours of trekking depending on the water levels in rivers and physical fitness. Overnight at Village Community Hall by river bank. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Sometimes you will have to get wet

Day 4

After breakfast, continue your last day of jungle trekking (5 hours) passing through a mixture of rice paddy fields and secondary jungle. Return to Kota Kinabalu after having lunch at the local coffee shop. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Crocker Range National Park in Brief The Crocker Range is a forest covered mountain range which stretches in a south westerly direction from Mount Kinabalu towards the Sabah – Sarawak border. It separates the coastal plains from the interior regions. Frequently shrouded in rain clouds, the peaks rise to an altitude of between 1200 – 1800 metres above the coastal plains. Formerly a forest reserve, its 1399 square kilometres became a national park in 1984. It is the largest park in Sabah.

The Crocker Range is bisected by the Padas Gorge, through which swirls the mighty Padas River. The Crocker Range provides a vital water catchment area for communities in the foothills and plains to both the West coast of Sabah and the interior.

Previously, there was no road from the interior to the coastal towns, and only had bridle paths criss-crossing the hinterlands. These bridle paths took the villagers down to the coastal towns, where they were able to barter for salt, matches and kerosene. These paths are now known as the Salt Trail.

The remote peak of Mount (Gunung) Trusmadi is the second highest mountain in Sabah at 2642 metres. Located within a forest reserve, this mountain is extremely rich in flora and fauna which makes a wonderful trekking environment. Unlike Mount Kinabalu, few tourists venture up Gunung Trusmadi, and very often you have the mountain all to yourself. This is partly due to the remoteness of the reserve as well as the steep and challenging terrain of the mountain. The only facility for climbers is a small sleeping hut approximately two thirds of the way up the mountain. There is a shower and toilet but no hot water. For now this is the only place where visitors are allowed to sleep. In order to catch the breathtaking views of the sunrise and Mt Kinabalu from the summit, one needs to start the trek from the hut by 03.00 hrs.

Day 1

Early morning pick up from your KK hotel (05.30 hrs) and then transfer by road to Tambunan, where you will be able to have breakfast.

Around 08.30 hrs, you will be met by a 4×4 vehicle which will take you into the forest reserve. You will arrive at the start of the trek about 10.00 hrs.

Trek up the mountain for the remainder of the day – arriving at the camping hut at around 16.00 hr

Summit of Mt Trusmadi

Day 2

Up very early to be able to depart to the summit at around 03.00 hrs. You will be able to leave most of your belongings in the hut, as you will be passing by on the descent. Arrive at the summit of Mount Trusmadi at 06.00 hrs in time for the sunrise. Descend to the base camp about 07.00 hrs. Breakfast will be served at the camp.

After breakfast, collect your belongings and at around 10.00 hrs, you will continue your descent to meet the 4×4 vehicle for the trip back to Tambunan, arriving there at 15.00 hrs.

Transfer to the minibus and continue the trip to Kota Kinabalu, arriving at your hotel around 17.00 hrs [includes Breakfast and Lunch]

Pre-requisites

You will need a good level of fitness for this trek – you must be happy and comfortable to walk uphill in a hot and humid environment for up to eight hours.

You need to be prepared to rough it! The camping hut is very basic and is not well maintained. Unfortunately many previous visitors do not respect their environment and often there is rubbish left from their visit.

You will need to be prepared to carry your own personal belongings and up to three litres of water. Porters are hired to carry food stuff and cooking gear (if you let us know in advance, you can hire a porter to carry your own kit for a small additional fee)

Safety is always the priority and if the park guide and tour leader feel that it is not safe to continue for any reason, then their decision must be respected.

Due to the altitude, the weather on the mountain can be very wet and very cold.

Duration - 6 days / 5 nights

Long Pa Sia is a very remote village situated in the heart of Borneo and home to the Lun Dayeh tribe. It is located in the south-western part of Sabah, adjacent to the border of Sarawak and Kalimantan. If you are looking for a mix of culture, trekking, camping and spending time with the real jungle experts then this is the trip for you.

The forest around Long Pa Sia is famous for the rich plant diversity and historical treasures. There are many cultural sites which include burial grounds with ancient burial jars. The jungle trek will also take you past beautiful waterfalls and a hidden lake in the forest, which is the setting for many of the local stories, beliefs and legends.

Day 1

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and transported deep into the interior of Sabah to Long Pasia. The journey takes approximately eight hours with much of it by 4 x 4. You will be welcomed into the village by your host family who you will join for dinner and stay overnight in their house. This is a great opportunity to experience the traditional way of life of these people and sample some local delicacies! [includes Lunch and Dinner]

Trekking through the jungle

Day 2

After an early breakfast with your host family, you will set off into the jungle accompanied by a Lun Dayeh guide. The first camp is approximately a five hour interesting trek from the village where you will experience river crossings and wobbly bridges. Your guide will help you collect any edible plants or jungle fruits along the way which you can cook along with dinner in the evening. Day 3

This morning you will continue trekking in this rich jungle environment. The terrain becomes slightly more challenging and will take you deeper into the forest crossing rivers to the next jungle camp. [includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner]

Day 4

This will be the longest day of trekking – probably taking eight hours or more! By this time, however, you should be feeling fit, acclimatised and comfortable in the jungle. Again, you will camp in the forest, have a wash in the river and cook with the guide on the open fire. [includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner]

Duration - 3 days / 2 nights

Lupa Masa translates to ‘forget time’ and during this jungle experience, this is exactly what you can do. Lupa Masa Eco Camp is surrounded by Mount Kinabalu National Park and World Heritage Site. This itinerary is a perfect introduction to the diversity of the Borneo rainforest and is teeming with butterflies, birds and strange insects. The camp is made from local bamboo and electricity is supplied from its own mini hydro-electric system.

This relaxing itinerary will give you a great balance of trekking in the surrounding forest which is amazing for animal spotting and relaxing in the camp which is surrounded by crystal clean rivers and a stunning waterfall.

Day 1

You will be collected from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and transported up the winding road past Mount Kinabalu National Park. It takes approximately 2 1/2 hrs by vehicle to reach the Lupa Masa trailhead. It only takes a further 20 minutes to walk into Lupa Masa Camp site along a beautiful jungle trail.

After lunch, there will be a short trek in the surrounding forest and an opportunity to spend a couple of hours relaxing in the river before sunset and dinner. For those feeling adventurous, there is an optional night walk to spot nocturnal animals in the evening. [includes Lunch and Dinner]

Day 2

Today, you will really have an opportunity to explore the jungle with the experienced local guides who were born and brought up in a nearby village. Their ability to spot unusual and camouflaged insects is unbelievable and they are very much at home in the forest environment. After a picnic lunch in the forest, you will trek back in time to cool off in the river before dinner. [includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner]

Day 3

After a relaxing morning at Lupa Masa, you will be transported back to Kota Kinabalu stopping en-route for lunch in Kundasang. [includes Breakfast and Lunch]

Pre-requisites

You do not need to be particularly fit. However, please be aware that Lupa Masa is a 20 minute trek through the forest and has no road access.

You need to be prepared to rough it! The camp is basic and has been built with minimal impact to the forest environment being a priority

You will need to be prepared to carry your own personal belongings to the camp and while trekking (if you let us know in advance, you can hire a porter to carry your own kit for a small additional fee).

Safety is always the priority and if the park guide and tour leader feel that it is not safe to continue for any reason, then their decision must be respected.
