This gem of a boutique getaway, Borneo Eagle Resort, recently opened (mid-2018) and is located on the pristine island of Pulau Tiga off the West coast of Sabah, in Malaysian Borneo. Set in a pocket of paradise, this luxury vacation destination is blessed with clear azure waters and white sand beach, as well as magnificent coral reefs in a marine reserve.
10 kilometres of the coast of Kuala Penyu, a small fishing village, you will find Pulau Tiga, one of a group of small uninhabited islands in Kimanis Bay to the South of Kota Kinabalu, off the West coast of Sabah, in Malaysian Borneo. The islands were formed in 1897, when an earthquake on Mindanao, in the Philippines, caused a volcanic eruption near Borneo. The island is 607 hectares in size, and has a couple of active mud volcanoes at the highest part of the island.
You will find natural volcanic mud pools within the majestic rainforest, all just waiting to be discovered. Built upon a holistic philosophy, the resort beckons with its creature comforts: fresh, delectable cuisine, beautifully appointed villas, some with pools and spa facilities for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Borneo Eagle Resort features 13 well-appointed one-bedroom ocean front villas, ranging from 172 square metres to 288 sq metres, stretch along side a 1 km white sandy beach on the South-East side of Pulau Tiga. Each secluded villa sits on spacious grounds and boasts exceptional views over the South China Sea. On a clear day you will have uninterrupted views of the majestic Mount Kinabalu and the Crocker Range. The warm clear blue South China Sea is teeming with fish and one of many reasons to visit, is the easy access to a beautiful reef just in front of your villa. The towering jungle acts as a backdrop to the resort, and easy trekking is a must. The sounds of the jungle can be deafening, so you know it’s alive. With a keen eye you are able to spot long tailed Macaque monkeys, monitor lizards, local Hornbills and the soaring Sea Eagle.

The resort is unpretentious; it complements the surroundings. The main building is an architectural feature representing the Eagle with its majestic wingspan. The Reception, the Main Restaurant and Bar are all to be found there. The fully air-conditioned Wine Pavilion with the alfresco roof top is connected from the restaurant via a suspension bridge.
The beautiful pathways will take you to the villas. There are three categories, each highlighting unique features, whether being a private swimming pool, an in-room spa, or easy access to the coral reef. The common theme is modern with plenty of living space. Behind each villa is a small garden some with fish ponds.
