MT. KINABALU PARK AND PORING HOT SPRINGS

Tour Code: KK4
Duration – Full day – departs 07.00 hrs

A full day trip to visit Kinabalu Park on the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu, and Poring Hot Springs.

You will start your day with an early morning pickup from your Hotel before driving 2 hours overland through rice paddy fields and Dusun villages over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu at 1500 metres. It is a veritable treasure trove for botanists and bird watchers. On the trip from KK, you will be able to experience spectacular scenery as you cross the ridges of the Croker Range. En route you will get a chance to photograph the mountain from a number of angles (ask the driver to stop for you!) and also to visit a local market at Pekan Nabalu, located near the base of the mountain, to savour local fruits in season and to bargain prices for the handicrafts. Pekan Nabalu is a great place to take panorama photos of Mount Kinabalu before continuing our journey 40 km or so towards Poring Hot Springs. Poring is located at an altitude of only 450 m.

Continue your journey 40 km to Poring located at an altitude of only 450 m. Upon your arrival, you’ll be briefed by your guide with two options for tours in the area – either accompany the guide on a nature walk (550m) up to the canopy walkway, where you will explore tropical rainforest among the jungle trail leading to the treetop canopy walkways suspended up to 40 metres above the forest floor between giant Mengaris trees; or decide to have a dip in the hot sulphur spring baths. Due to the limited time available, you’ll have to choose either one.

CANOPY WALKWAY AT PORING

After your activity, have a quick lunch at one of the few restaurants inside or outside the park, or you can also bring along your own packed lunch. Meet together again at 13.30 hrs for your departure to Kinabalu Park. (Lunch at own expense)

There, you will visit the Education Centre and Mountain Garden and if the weather permits, take a short stroll on one of the many nature trails. Learn about the wonderful flora of Kinabalu Park as your guide shares the many hidden delights you’ll probably miss if you’ve come on your own. The Mountain Garden is home to various species of the flowering rhododendrons, carnivorous pitcher plants, orchids, ferns, oak trees and birds.

You will depart Kinabalu Park at around 15.30 hrs for your journey back to KK, and your hotel, where you will arrive in the late afternoon.

Please bring along drinking water bottle, insect repellent, hat, walking shoes, light raincoat and swimming attire.

A similar, more in depth tour can also be done as a two day trip, staying overnight at Kinabalu Park. Refer to Tour Code KK9 – Kinabalu Park Safari
